Waymap Secures £7 Million to Expand Accessible Navigation Globally
Waymap, a London-based accessible navigation app for the visually impaired, has raised £7 million in a funding round led by TELUS’ Pollinator Fund for Good
The app, founded by Dr
Tom Pey, uses a unique algorithm called SmartStep to provide indoor and underground navigation without relying on GPS or internet connectivity
The funding will be used to support Waymap's international expansion plans, particularly in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
ProblemTechnology
"Navigating indoor and underground spaces, especially for visually impaired individuals, can be challenging with traditional GPS-reliant navigation apps."
Solution
"Waymap offers an audio-based navigation app that uses a smartphone's motion sensors to provide step-by-step directions, making indoor and underground navigation accessible for everyone, particularly those with visual impairments."
