Nova Innovation Secures £1.2 Million for Tidal Energy Project in Wales
Nova Innovation, a UK-based tidal energy company, has secured £1.2 million in funding from the Welsh Government for its Enlli tidal energy project in north Wales
The funding will be used to support environmental consenting and engineering design work for the project, which aims to generate electricity from the natural ebb and flow of the tide between Ynys Enlli and the mainland of the Llŷn Peninsula
Nova Innovation plans to install five 100 kW turbines on the seabed, with the potential to help the ‘Island in the Currents’ switch from a dependency on diesel generation to become the world’s first blue energy island.
ProblemRenewable Energy
"Tidal power as a renewable energy source faces challenges in engineering, marine environments, and finding suitable locations, limiting its ability to reach its full potential."
Solution
"Nova Innovation designs, builds, and operates tidal energy devices, creating arrays of turbines installed on the seabed. These turbines, hidden beneath the surface, harness tidal power to generate clean energy, addressing the visual impact concerns associated with other renewable sources like wind and solar."
