SoluBlue Wins £430K for Seaweed-Based Packaging Innovation
SoluBlue, a British startup based in Cambridge, has won the grand prize of €500K (approx £430K) from the Postcode Lotteries Green Challenge for its seaweed-based alternative to plastic packaging
The company's packaging extends shelf-life and reduces food waste by absorbing excess moisture, making it a sustainable solution for the food industry
The funding will be used to scale up the technology for pilot production among retailers
Another British startup, Jiva Materials, also secured €200K (approx £171K) from the challenge for its flax-based printed circuit board, Soluboard, which is fully recyclable and can be easily separated in hot water to extract metals for new purposes
The funding will help Jiva Materials move from R&D to offering customers a product that significantly cuts their carbon footprints and electronic waste worldwide.
