The UK-based startup, founded in 2013, now offers its platform in nine languages and plans to expand its geographical presence, including opening a new office in Silicon Valley
what3words has shifted its business model from selling single-word location labels to licensing three-word addresses to geographic information system providers, including Esri, Navmii, and Norgeskart.
ProblemTechnology
"Sharing exact locations is a pain. Existing methods rely on long numbers, alphanumeric codes, or complicated addresses, making it difficult for people to remember, share accurately, and communicate easily."
Solution
"what3words assigns a unique three-word address to every 3m x 3m square on Earth, simplifying location sharing. This system is easy to remember, share without errors, and communicate verbally, making it a more user-friendly alternative to traditional methods."
