Echion Technologies Raises £29M for Niobium-Based Battery Tech
Echion Technologies, a Cambridge-based developer of niobium-based, fast-charging battery materials, has raised £29 million in Series B funding led by Volta Energy Technologies
The investment will enable Echion to execute its go-to-market strategy for its innovative niobium-based XNO® anode material, which delivers lithium-ion battery performance highly suited for industrial, commercial, and high-value applications
Echion's partnership with CBMM will see the opening of a 2,000 tonne per year XNO® manufacturing facility this year.
ProblemTechnology
"Existing battery technologies are slow to charge, have limited capacity at low temperatures, and degrade quickly. This limits the adoption of electric vehicles, particularly in heavy-duty applications."
Solution
"Echion Technologies has developed a niobium-based anode material called XNO® that enables fast-charging, high-energy density batteries that can operate efficiently at low temperatures and have a long cycle life. This technology is ideal for electric vehicles, particularly those used in heavy-duty applications."
