Linear Diagnostics Secures £300K to Develop Rapid Diagnostic Platform
Linear Diagnostics, a Birmingham, UK-based rapid diagnostic platform technology platform, raised £300k in funding from Rainbow Seed Fund and the University of Birmingham’s Spinout Investment fund
The company intends to use the funds to develop its platform technology into a handheld device that can detect the presence of bacterial infection and simultaneously identify the risk of resistance to the most commonly prescribed antibiotics, without the need for laboratory facilities
The first application to be developed will be a device for the detection of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs).
ProblemHealthcare
"It takes time to diagnose bacterial infections and even longer to determine if the bacteria is resistant to antibiotics. This leads to inappropriate antibiotic prescriptions which worsens the problem of antimicrobial resistance."
Solution
"Linear Diagnostics developed a handheld device that can detect bacteria and simultaneously identify resistance to common antibiotics. The device uses a novel application of linear dichroism. It will help restrict inappropriate prescriptions and contribute to the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR)."
