I-Phyc Secures £2.3 Million to Expand Green Water Treatment Solutions
I-Phyc, a Birmingham, UK-based green water treatment company, has raised £2.3 million in funding led by Mellby Gård AB, MEIF Proof of Concept & Early Stage Fund (managed by Mercia), and private investors
The company will use the funds to establish itself as a leader in 'circular' solutions to remove wastewater contaminants
I-Phyc's nature-based system utilizes algae to remove pollutants, lock away carbon, and create sustainable by-products
The technology is currently in operation at water treatment plants in Weston-super-Mare and Broadwindsor, and will be used in a new plant in Croxton Kerrial
The company is in discussions with all the major UK water companies as well as operators in the US and Scandinavia.
ProblemTechnology Infrastructure
"Water companies are struggling to meet stricter limits on pollutants in wastewater, especially phosphorus and ammonia, because current systems are expensive and inefficient."
Solution
"I-Phyc has developed a nature-based wastewater treatment solution that uses algae to remove pollutants, lock away carbon, and create sustainable by-products from the biomass. This technology is more cost-effective and efficient than traditional methods, and it is already being used at water treatment plants in the UK."
