Oxford Biotrans Secures £2.5 Million Series A Funding
Oxford Biotrans, a University of Oxford spin-out company, has raised £2.5 million in Series A funding led by Imperial Innovations
The round included participation from existing shareholders IP Group plc and the University of Oxford, as well as new investors Oxford Innovations, Technology EIS Fund, and De Monchy Aromatics
The company intends to use the funds to establish purpose-built facilities and expand its team
Oxford Biotrans aims to commercialize new specialty chemicals based on its patented enzyme technology
Its first product is natural grade nootkatone, the flavor and scent of grapefruit
The company has already identified several further flavor product targets and plans to realize scalable, “green”, and economically attractive enzymatic processes for production of these new targets
Oxford Biotrans will also explore targets in other market segments.
