Orthox Secures $12.5 Million to Advance Silk-Based Knee Implants
Oxford-based medtech company Orthox has raised $12.5 million in a Series A funding round led by Parkwalk
The company develops implants using silk proteins to replace damaged knee articular cartilage
The funding will support clinical trials for its product, FibroFix, which is expected to begin later this year.
ProblemHealthcare
"Hundreds of thousands of knee replacements are performed globally each year, often resulting in lengthy recovery times and potential complications. Traditional implants may not fully emulate the natural cartilage, leading to suboptimal outcomes."
Solution
"Orthox has developed FibroFix, a biocompatible knee implant made from silk proteins. This innovative implant mimics the properties of real cartilage, promoting faster tissue regeneration and potentially leading to quicker patient recovery and improved long-term outcomes."
