Light Science Technologies Secures £500K to Develop 'All-in-One' Sensor for Vertical Farms
Light Science Technologies, a Derby-based startup, has secured £500,000 in funding to develop an "all-in-one" sensor for vertical farms
The sensor will monitor key environmental factors such as light, water, air, temperature, humidity, oxygen, and soil to optimize plant productivity and yield
The company received the investment from Innovate UK as part of the government's £90 million Transforming Food Production program.
ProblemTechnology
"Vertical farming is a promising solution to the challenges of food production, but it requires precise control of the growing environment to maximize yield and efficiency. Existing sensor technologies are often expensive, complex, and require significant maintenance, making them a barrier to entry for many farmers."
Solution
"Light Science Technologies is developing an 'all-in-one' sensor that integrates multiple environmental parameters into a single, easy-to-use device. This sensor will provide real-time data on light, water, air, temperature, humidity, oxygen, and soil conditions, allowing farmers to optimize their growing environment and maximize yield. The sensor is designed to be cost-effective, low-maintenance, and scalable, making it accessible to a wider range of farmers."
